ITIL 4

ITIL 4

Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), is a methodology that is based on the quality of service and the effective and efficient development of processes that cover the most important activities of organizations in their Information Systems and Information Technologies.

This methodology was developed at the request of the Government of the United Kingdom in the late 1980s and includes the best practices in the management of Information Systems.

Since then its use has been extended throughout the private company, both multinational and SMEs, becoming considered a de facto standard for the management of this area of the company.

ITIL was created for the administration of IT services. ITIL includes information on inputs and outputs, objectives, etc., related to the processes of the IT areas.

ITIL is a discipline that allows IT management to have control over IT assets.
Among the benefits of the implementation of ITIL in a company are:

  • Optimize company resources and IT budget.
  • Minimize the risk.
  • Reduce costs.
  • Ensure more technology availability time.
  • Switch to focus by processes.

The ITIL 3 update

The update is likely to strengthen links with the commercial strategy and maintain the core elements that are still valuable, in addition to providing guidance on specific areas.

What are the most significant changes to this update?

ITIL v3 has too much focus on the process

Implementation in silos with organizations that operate each of the processes separately.

Very little focus on value, results, costs and risks

Provides support for digital transformation.

Compatibility with Agile, Lean, DevOps and other management approaches

How will the update of ITIL 4 affect existing ITIL qualification holders?

All ITIL certifications will remain valid after the update.

All credits obtained can be transferred to the new certification scheme.

Candidates must continue to collect the 17 ITIL v3 credits needed to take the ITIL Managing Professional Transition module (one course, one exam).
