New ecological bags made of edible material

New ecological bags made of edible material

A startup in Bali (Indonesia) has developed an ecological material of texture, functionality and resistance similar to plastic to manufacture environmentally friendly bags that are truly biodegradable.

The main problem today is the traditional plastic bags that are manufactured with high density polyethylene, a compound that takes time to degrade in nature between 100 and 300 years. For this reason, many shops have chosen to use bags of other materials, such as paper or cloth, and today most stores charge for traditional bags to encourage reuse.

However, the compound with which ecological bags are manufactured, called Avani Eco Bags, is made from cassava root and natural resins, a combination that allows unlike other biodegradable alternatives to be 100% compostable.

According to the manufacturer, these ecological bags are degraded over a period of 90 days in nature, completely dissolved in hot water, can be recycled with paper and do not contain any toxic elements, so they are edible.

It is not the first time that we see ecological bags made of plant materials, there are already many alternatives made from starch of potato starch, whose use was popularized a few years ago in many supermarkets.

Avani the representative of these bags defends that their bags are truly ecological and different from other supposedly biodegradable alternatives, that their production process is sustainable and that their resistance is very similar to those of plastic, so they can be reused many times.
