Five old processors that you should not consider when giving a second life to a PC

Five old processors that you should not consider when giving a second life to a PC

If you use any of these processors you will have already realized that they are accusing the passage of time, and that you need to carry out an update.

These 5 models that we present to you have been chosen for their shortcomings in terms of core counting and IPC, since they do not offer good performance either with demanding applications or with current games.

This does not mean that they cannot with more basic tasks and games of the last generation, but their useful life is almost completely exhausted with current applications and titles.

1.-Pentium G3220

It is a processor based on the Haswell architecture, which means that it has a high IPC, but it has two very important shortcomings: it only has two cores and two threads and its working frequency is very low

Its performance in not very demanding applications, in office automation, web browsing and games of the previous generation is good, but it does not offer a good experience in demanding applications and is not even able to move much of the current games.

2.-Core i3 4360

It was one of the most popular processors of the Intel Haswell series for its tight price-performance ratio. Its CPI is high and thanks to its two cores and four threads it offers a clearly higher value than the previous one, but it has not aged well and is not a good option if we want to upgrade an old device.

In some cases it still offers acceptable performance, especially in applications and games that do not necessarily require four physical cores to function properly, but the four cores have been the minimum standard for years.

3.-Core i5 650

It is a processor that still generates controversy, since despite being a Core i5 it does not have four physical cores, but two cores and four threads thanks to HyperThreading. This, together with its reduced CPI and low clock frequencies, has caused it to age very badly.

In office automation, applications and games that are not very demanding, it still has a lot to offer, but beyond that we should not expect good performance.

4.-FX 4100

AMD launched this processor in late 2012 in response to the Intel Core i3 2000 series. Its objective was to compete with this series of processors, based on the Sandy Bridge architecture, but its performance ended up being clearly inferior.

It has two complete modules and four integer cores, a fairly low CPI and high frequencies for its time, but its performance is currently very poor in demanding applications and games.

5.-Phenom II X2 570 Black Edition

A two-core and two-wire processor that has succumbed to the standardization of the four cores. Its IPC is very low and not even the possibility of overclocking allows it to achieve a significant improvement in terms of performance.

It can offer an acceptable experience with old and undemanding games and applications, but as soon as we try to ask for a little more it will be unable to respond.

Now you know that if you have any of these processors on your device, it is time to think about an update or change your device for a newer one with a more avant-garde processor.
