Data Centers Water Consumption

Resource scarcity is another negative impact of our linear economic model and our excessive consumption of technology. It is not a secret that even when the entire world has been looking for new alternatives to revert climate change, pollution, the overuse of resources, and water scarcity, the game only becomes more critical.

Let's focus on the water scarcity problem!

Humans need fresh water to drink, wash, or complete manufacturing processes, but we sometimes forget that our water supply is limited. What about animals and plants? All living organisms need water to survive, so water matters!!!

Even when reducing the burden on your local water supply is excellent, small actions may not produce any remarkable difference since all those manufacturing companies use even more water, energy, and resources than our entire neighborhood.

Water scarcity is a growing problem caused by humans, manufacturing companies, and let me tell you that those big data centers also waste billions of liters every year. Why? Data centers have hundreds of computers, switches, storage equipment, servers, routers, and security devices to process their data. The problem with data centers is the excess heat generated by the same power and energy required by machines, plus all the warmth trapped in the warehouse.

There are several cooling options to keep the systems running smoothly, but water usage is the cheapest and the most used method among big companies. Big data centers for companies like Google always keep their water and energy consumption private because those numbers could be representing an extraordinary risk to our environment.
