You are Being Tracked

As the name says, our beloved smartphones are smart devices. They can hear us, track us, analyze our preferences, and even more. It seems like your smartphone knows you better than your best friend.

Am I scaring you? It's spooky season already, but I only want you to understand that mobile devices are much more than a fancy aluminum box.

Every word you have entered to the search bar, every website you have visited, every video or photo you have observed, or every song you have listened to stays stored in your Google history. It may be helpful to mention that we also have cookies tracking our navigation.

Considering how much we use the internet in our routines, we can conclude that Google knows us very well.

Google stores this information since your first login, so it may be surprising to see how many websites you have visited over the years. By erasing your old tracking, no one would ever know where you had been.

All this stuff about online tracking is conventional information, but what I found even more odd is that Google also tracks us in real life. By tracking your smartphone, Google creates a map that includes all your stops, distance traveled, and the time you arrived and left each spot.

In the same way, Apple also tracks us in real life. You can erase or disable location settings, but maps and GPS services will immediately stop working.

If we were in a movie, Google would be the police officer who holds a map with all the spots that the suspect has visited (creepy but real).
