Q1 2026 ITAD Industry Insights | AI, Compliance & Transparency

The IT asset disposition (ITAD) industry is off to a fast-moving start in 2026. From supply chain disruptions driven by artificial intelligence to increased regulatory scrutiny and evolving client expectations, the landscape is shifting rapidly.

To better understand these changes, we spoke with GreenTek Solutions’ CEO and founder, Anuar Garcia. We discussed key Q1 insights and what businesses should prepare for in the months ahead.

According to Garcia, one word defines the first quarter of the year:

“If I had to narrow it down to one word to describe Q1, I would use the word dynamic. Our industry is undergoing many changes, and they’re happening rapidly.”

AI Demand is Disrupting Supply and Pricing

One of the biggest drivers of change in Q1 has been the rapid growth of AI infrastructure. The demand for components like SSDs, RAM, and hard drives has surged, creating significant supply constraints across the market.

“AI is absorbing so much technology… memory, RAM, SSDs, hard drives… that it’s making it difficult for manufacturers to produce as much as the industry needs.”

As a result, many organizations are delaying upgrades because of limited access to new hardware.

“If customers are not able to get the new equipment, they’re not upgrading as fast as they would like. That means we’re getting less equipment into the secondary market.”

At the same time, demand for secondary market equipment remains strong, driving prices upward.

“Because there’s less equipment entering the secondary market and demand is still high, that’s driving prices up significantly.”

Increased Scrutiny Around Global IT Asset Movement

Alongside supply challenges, regulatory oversight is intensifying—particularly for technology exports.

“Government bodies are looking much closer at what’s being exported… even categories like SSDs, RAM, and hard drives.”

This shift is forcing ITAD providers to be more diligent than ever. They must understand where the equipment is going and who is buying it.

“You have to make sure you know who your buyer is, understand what they’re doing, and feel comfortable that you’re checking all the boxes.”

Failure to do so can create a ripple effect of risk across the entire supply chain.

Why Transparency is Becoming Critical in ITAD

As risks increase, transparency has emerged as a defining factor for ITAD providers. While many companies offer similar core services, clear visibility at each step is what sets leaders apart.

A key part of this transparency is GreenTek Solutions’ custom-built ERP system. Designed specifically for ITAD operations, it allows the team to track every asset at each stage. This gives clients clear visibility into how we handle their equipment and builds their confidence.

“We can tell you who scheduled the pickup, what truck was sent, who received the equipment, who tested it, who wiped it—every single touchpoint.”

This level of detail allows organizations to confidently respond to audits, compliance requirements, and internal questions.

“We don’t just want to say we received your equipment—we want to be able to answer any question about what happened to it.”

The Core Responsibility: Data Security and Environmental Protection

At its core, ITAD is more than disposal or management; it’s about protecting organizations from risk.

The first major responsibility is ensuring complete data security throughout the lifecycle of every asset.

“If we’re not able to wipe it or certify that the data has been removed, we’re not going to sell it. It will be physically destroyed.”

The second is environmental accountability, particularly when equipment moves beyond the initial ITAD provider.

“We don’t just send material downstream and stop there—we trace it all the way to the final destination where it’s actually recycled.”

The Risk of Getting ITAD Wrong

Organizations that do not use a proper ITAD strategy face three main risks.

These risks are data exposure, environmental liability, and lost value.

“If you don’t have the right ITAD provider, your data could be at risk—even if they’re trying to do everything right.”

“Once equipment is sent downstream, you can lose visibility of where it’s going and what’s happening to it.”

“A lot of companies leave money on the table because they don’t fully understand or represent the technology they’re selling.”

Looking Ahead: Growth and Innovation in 2026

Despite industry challenges, GreenTek Solutions is focused on continued growth and innovation in 2026.

“We have some aggressive goals… including opening another facility and expanding our reach across the U.S.”

In addition, the company is investing heavily in technology to enhance transparency and operational efficiency further.

“Our goal is to bring everything into one platform so we can have better control, better reporting, and better visibility across every step of the process.”

GreenTek is also pursuing ISO 27001 certification, reinforcing its commitment to cybersecurity and data protection.

“This certification is about making sure we’re protecting our own infrastructure and our customers’ information at the highest level.”

Q1 2026 has made one thing clear: the ITAD industry is evolving quickly, and businesses must adapt just as fast.

From AI-driven supply constraints to increased regulatory scrutiny and rising expectations around transparency, the need for a strategic ITAD partner has never been greater.

Organizations that take a proactive approach to IT asset disposition will be best positioned to reduce risk, maximize value, and navigate the rest of 2026 with confidence.
