For a Greener Future, GreenTek Adopts 100% Renewable Energy

GreenTek doubles down on its commitment to environmental responsibility by making the switch to 100% renewable energy provided by Green Mountain Energy, further reducing its carbon footprint by 108 metric tons per year.

When given the opportunity to switch from non-renewable, carbon–based energy sources to wind energy provided by Green Mountain Energy, GreenTek jumped at the opportunity. In 2021, GreenTek diverted 180 tons of material to reuse and prevented 450 tons of greenhouse gas emissions through IT asset recycling and refurbishment services. Some may say this is enough environmental impact, but our team has a bigger, greener vision.

While the decision to adopt green energy was an easy choice, there were 3 key reasons that drove this decision—and may inspire you to make a similar choice for your business:

Reason 1: We live our mission. The “green” in GreenTek isn’t just branding. Every single day, we make choices and take eco-friendly actions that prevent e-waste from entering landfills, diverts materials to reuse, repurposes devices for a second life and helps customers be good environmental stewards.

However, we’re always looking to do more. Making the switch to renewable wind energy is a choice that fits well with our vision and values; as our team prevents pollution and wasted materials by refurbishing or recycling devices, our warehouse facility and office is powered by wind passing through turbines.

Ultimately, this choice isn’t just about GreenTek and its customers. It’s also about our planet, the people who live on it and the people who will one day inherit it—which brings us to our second reason.

Reason 2: We love our planet. At a time of climate change, worsening weather events and apocalyptic forecasts, GreenTek’s team thinks a lot about the world the next generation will live in. We believe in being good environmental stewards, especially when we can make choices that lead to significant improvements.

Moving to wind power means that—each year—we prevent carbon emission equivalent to:

  1. Burning 60 tons of coal
  2. Driving 270,000 miles in a car
  3. Consuming 12,000 gallons of gasoline

> It would take 128 acres of forest to sequester this carbon per year. And all we had to do was make an easy switch to wind energy. “Using green power helps our organization reduce air pollution and lower our emissions footprint, while also sending a message to others across the country that green power is an affordable, accessible choice,” said Anuar Garcia, the GreenTek Solutions’ CEO

Because we love our planet, this is just the beginning. As environmental advocates, we’re partnering with the EPA and GPP to further educate and recruit other businesses to use green power.

Reason 3: We value progress. While carbon-based fuels powered the tremendous growth of the last few centuries, they also powered the decline of our climate. Now, we have the technology and access to renewable options that offer all the upsides and none of the downsides of carbon-based fuels and we’re eager to embrace these developments.

Just as GreenTek adopts technology and new ideas to make our operations safer, more efficient and better for customers, we have a similar forward focus when it comes to what powers our business. Driving forward is key for GreenTek and its customers, so whenever there’s an opportunity to adopt an advancement that brings real value and impact, we say ‘yes’.

Moving to wind energy has brought only upsides and no noticeable change in experience; power doesn’t cut out on a calm day, for example. Plus, we know the downstream effects add up to decades of benefits, from living our mission to loving our plant to embracing progress. Now, we’re actively sourcing our next green initiative, one that can bring even more environmental benefits.
